Christy’s education included a Bachelor of Physical Education from the University of Calgary in 1994 and a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy in 1997, from Queen’s University.
Christy’s practice has always been specialized in the treatment of the upper extremity. Her initial work experiences occurred in Calgary, Montana, Nelson and in Colorado where she successfully passed her CHT exam in 2002. Her passion for living in the mountains and the Kootenay life brought her back to Nelson in 2007.
If it involves a custom splint, Christy’s probably already thinking about how to build it.
Christy has progressive clinical reasoning and extensive experience to quickly diagnose and develop a treatment plan for acute and chronic upper extremity injuries. Christy attends annual Hand Therapy conferences to stay abreast with current practice for Upper Extremity Assessment and Treatments. She has particular expertise in:
- Custom Thermoplastic Splinting for both protecting an injury or promoting range of motion,
- Wrist sprains, finger/hand stiffness, and thumb instability/arthritis,
- Identifying dysfunctional upper extremity movement patterns and using specific exercises &/or Kinesiotaping to achieve optimal posture, joint movement, and strength,
- Complicated wound care treatments and application of appropriate dressings to promote timely healing,
- Edema/Swelling and Lymphatic management.
Christy is especially proud of her two wonderful sons and she spends her free time trying to master yoga poses, mountain biking, telemark and cross-country skiing, travelling, and cooking.
