About Us

Clinic owners Jodi Dool and Christy Macfie

Blackbird Physiotherapy is a leader in the treatment of upper extremity injuries for the East and West Kootenays.

Having two certified hand therapists (CHT) with over 30 years combined experience, our specialization fills a void in the service area and creates a center of excellence.

A Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) is an occupational therapist or physical therapist who has a minimum of five years of clinical experience, including 4,000 hours or more in direct practice in hand therapy. In addition, a Certified Hand Therapist has successfully passed a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and theory in upper quarter rehabilitation.

Because of an evolving knowledge base for the profession, every CHT is required to demonstrate continued professional development and competency by recertifying every five years.

Jodi and Christy have trained internationally and have attended highly acclaimed conferences aimed at clarity in the treatment of their patients. They have over 30 years of combined experience with proven results. They pride themselves in being passionate and client centred in the direct care of patients with upper extremity injuries and dysfunction.

Jodi has special interest and expertise in advanced osteopathic and manual therapy treatment techniques. Christy is a leader in fabrication of custom thermoplastic splints and functional evaluations.

Our manifesto is to be known as experts in providing therapy to people with injured or dysfunctional upper extremities in a nurturing, optimisitic, joyful, and beautiful environment. We strive to assist our patients to improve their upper extremity function in their work, play, and life. We do this by offering individualized care and support to people to help them to progress to optimal function.
